Girl and Woman Hit by Car in Dagenham: Community Rally to Rescue
Emergency services responded to a serious crash in Dagenham last Tuesday morning when a woman and a young girl were struck by a vehicle.
Crash Shakes Dagenham Residents
The smash happened just after 8am on April 23 on New Road, close to the Ballards Road junction. A 35-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl were injured in the collision.
The Met Police confirmed today (April 28) the girl’s condition has improved significantly and is no longer considered life-changing — a huge relief for the local community.
Heroes Lift Car to Save Victims
Witnesses say about 30 members of the public sprang into action to help the trapped victims. Among them was Luke Collins, a clinical nurse specialist cycling to work in Southwark.
“I saw loads of people actively trying to move a car. When I saw the little girl, it was even more shocking. I was expecting the worst. It was heart-wrenching, but seeing the community come together so quickly was inspiring.”
The brave crowd managed to lift the car, freeing the woman and girl just before paramedics arrived.
Luke praised the “great community spirit,” adding that though Londoners may seem reserved, “they’ll definitely come together when it counts.”
Police Probe Ongoing – Witnesses Urged to Speak Up
No further injuries have been reported, and no arrests have been made so far. The Met Police continue their investigation and have appealed for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
