Woman Nabbed for Drug Driving During Project Zero Patrol
A 30-year-old woman was arrested today on suspicion of drug driving after being caught behind the wheel of a Ford Focus on the A420 at Allington. Police say a roadside test revealed cocaine in her system. She has since been released pending further investigation.
Project Zero: Clamping Down on Fatal Five Offences
Every Wednesday, the Roads Policing Unit (RPU) beefs up patrols in Chippenham as part of Project Zero — a crackdown aiming to slash road deaths across the county. The focus targets the “Fatal Five” offences:
- Excessive Speed
- Drink/Drug Driving
- Using a Phone While Driving
- Not Wearing a Seatbelt
- Careless or Dangerous Driving
While routine for the officers, this increased attention means serious action against dangerous drivers.
Heavy Penalties and Community Focus
Today’s patrols laid down the law with:
- 12 Fixed Penalty Tickets for illegal window tinting, seatbelt breaches, and more
- 10 Traffic Offence Reports for phone use, speeding, and unsafe loads
- 5 key locations—like Hardenhuish Lane and Malmesbury Road—targeted for speed checks following resident complaints
- 4 vehicles towed for lacking insurance
- One missing 15-year-old girl safely found by officers on patrol
Police Engaging with the Community to Tackle Speeding
“Officers were out and about in Chippenham today, not only catching traffic offenders but also speaking with locals who welcomed the police presence after concerns about speeding,” said Acting Inspector Will Ayres. “We’ve listened to feedback from residents and will keep up patrols and speed checks over the coming weeks and months.”
Project Zero continues to make waves in fighting dangerous driving and improving road safety—proving police aren’t just ticketing drivers but actively protecting communities.
