Major Fire Rips Through East Ham Home in Early Morning Blaze
Early Morning Inferno on Barking Road
A serious fire erupted just after 4am on Thursday at a mid-terraced property on Barking Road, East Ham. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) and London Ambulance Service (LAS) rushed to the scene following multiple 999 calls at 4:24am on 22 May 2025.
The blaze consumed a two-storey house that had been converted into flats, destroying a shed, two motorbikes, and ripping through the front windows. The roof suffered heavy fire damage, leaving the property badly affected.
Residents Escape, But Two Treated for Smoke Inhalation
Thankfully, eight people managed to flee the property before fire crews arrived. However, a woman and a child were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and later taken to hospital as a precaution.
Firefighters Battle Blaze with 32-Metre Ladder
Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from East Ham, Plaistow, Barking, and surrounding stations tackled the fierce fire. An aerial ladder stretching 32 metres was deployed to tackle the blaze from above. The fire was brought under control by 6:15am—less than two hours after emergency calls were received.
Investigation Ongoing as Police and Fire Brigade Probe Cause
The London Fire Brigade, working alongside the Metropolitan Police Service, is investigating the cause of the fire. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward.
“Firefighters responded quickly to a serious blaze at a converted residential property on Barking Road. Thankfully, all residents evacuated safely before our arrival. The use of one of our aerial ladders allowed crews to effectively contain the fire from height,” said a London Fire Brigade spokesperson.
