Eastbourne Blaze Sparks Overnight Fire Frenzy – Man Arrested for Arson

Massive Fire Response in Eastbourne

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service scrambled six fire engines, an Aerial Ladder Platform, the Command Unit, and senior officers to tackle a late-night blaze in Eastbourne. The alarm sounded at 11.10pm, sending firefighters into immediate action.

Wearing breathing apparatus and armed with two main jets, crews battled the flames through the night to bring the fire under control. Sussex Police were on scene to back up emergency efforts and launch an investigation.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported despite the severity of the fire, which sparked a major overnight operation.

Hours of Firefighting Efforts

  • By 2.12am on April 1, fire response was scaled back to three engines.
  • At 3.08am crews used hose reel jets and thermal imaging cameras to hunt down hot spots.
  • All firefighting wrapped up by 5.43am, but building reinspections were planned to ensure safety.

Arson Suspect in Custody

Sussex Police confirmed a 24-year-old Eastbourne man was arrested on suspicion of arson linked to the fire.

The blaze reportedly started on the top floor of a disused commercial building. Police arrested the suspect soon after the fire was reported. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
