Essex Cops Crack Down on COVID Rule-Breakers at Shopping Centres
Police in Essex are out in force, cracking down on COVID-19 rule-breakers while keeping the public safe and catching criminals. Their mission: enforce social distancing, face covering rules, and the Rule of Six.
Extra Patrols at Lakeside After Abuse Reports
Following reports of shop staff being verbally abused by shoppers refusing to wear masks, extra officers have been deployed at the intu Lakeside shopping centre. The police are making their presence felt to back up businesses and ensure compliance.
Chief Inspector Sounds Warning
Chief Inspector Richard Melton said:
“We have had additional patrols out and about every day in support of the communities. Patrolling town centres, shopping centres and supporting shops, to ensure the legislation is enforced.
We’ve had reports where shopkeepers enforcing rules faced abuse from the public refusing to wear face coverings.
The expectation is that everyone does the right thing. We must enforce the legislation at work and outside of it.
For the people of Essex, keep complying with the legislation so we can focus on policing crime—not the pandemic. Thank you.”
Community Spirit Shines Despite Challenges
Police acknowledge it’s tough but praise the compassion, resilience, and determination shown by Essex residents over the last months.
“We want to thank you for your continued support as we work together to keep Essex safe,” the force added.
