Bournemouth Hit-and-Run Tragedy: Cyclist Killed, Driver on the Run
The family of cyclist Christopher Gibbs has paid a heartbreaking tribute after he died in a suspected hit-and-run collision in Bournemouth. The incident happened around 10.39pm on Tuesday, 3 October 2017, when Christopher, 30, was struck on the A338 Spur Road southbound, near the Ashley Heath roundabout.
Driver Fled Scene, Police Launch Major Search
Authorities say the driver involved failed to stop. A wide search was launched, and a white Mercedes van linked to the crash was found early the next morning in Nursling, Southampton. The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Christopher was a well-loved and respected son who his family were very proud of. We wish to thank everyone for their kind words and support and would request privacy at this deeply upsetting time,” the family said.
Two Arrested as Police Probe Death
A 57-year-old man from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop. A 57-year-old woman from the same city is also in custody, suspected of assisting an offender. Both are cooperating with police.
Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward
Inspector Matt Butler of the traffic unit said: “I am keen to hear from anyone who was in the area of Verwood, the A31, or the A338 between 9.30pm and 10.40pm last night and may have seen a cyclist.”
