Oil Theft Foiled in Dymchurch – Two Men Arrested

Kent Police swooped early Monday morning after two men were spotted trying to nick oil from a business on Dymchurch Road. The cheeky duo were seen jumping a fence and making off in a white van just before 7am.

Quick Police Response Snags Suspects

Folkestone and Hythe officers quickly tracked down a van matching the description and stopped it. They arrested a 50-year-old and a 30-year-old man on suspicion of theft. Both have now been released under investigation.

Possible Link to Other Cooking Oil Thefts

Detectives are probing whether this brazen attempt ties into two other cooking oil thefts in the area. The community is urged to stay alert.

Police Issue Security Warning to Businesses

“We advise any business that stores cooking oil to review their security arrangements to ensure it does not attract the attention of thieves,” warned Detective Inspector Sheena Barrell of Folkestone and Hythe Community Safety Unit.

“Make certain that any alarm systems and CCTV cameras are fully operational, and that staff is trained to review and download footage. This will not only deter thieves but also make recovering stolen goods and identifying offenders easier.”

“We also recommend that areas around the business are well-lit and wheelie bins are stored away to prevent them being used to gain access or climb fences.”
