Tonbridge Hit-and-Run: Suspect Arrested After Dog Walker Killed
Police have arrested a man and recovered a damaged car in connection with the tragic hit-and-run death of a dog walker in Tonbridge.
Man in 50s Found Dead on Pembury Road
A man in his 50s was discovered lifeless on the A2014 Pembury Road, near the Vauxhall Inn, just before 9.15pm on Thursday, 6 August 2020. A passerby made the grim discovery.
He had injuries suggesting he’d been hit by a vehicle — but no driver had stopped at the scene. The victim’s dog was unharmed and safe.
Damaged Car Found, Suspect Nabbed
The following day, officers found a small hatchback with damage abandoned in a sportsground car park off Darenth Avenue. The vehicle has been seized for forensic tests.
A local man in his 30s was arrested that day on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He’s now been bailed to return to the police station on 4 September.
Police Appeal for Dashcam and CCTV Footage
“We continue to appeal for anyone with information about this incident to come forward and help us provide answers for the deceased’s family,” said PC Jamie Woodhams from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit.
“We are widening our appeal for dashcam and CCTV footage from the scene on Pembury Road and the route to the car park in Darenth Avenue.”
