Ex-Terrorist Jailed for Hiding Phone, Email and Car Details from Police
Ismail Abdurahman, 39, from south-east London, has been slammed with eight months behind bars for breaching terror notification rules. The Kingston Crown Court heard he failed to tell police about a mobile phone number, an email account, and a vehicle he was using – breaking strict Counter-Terrorism Act orders.
Strict Rules to Keep Public Safe
Abdurahman’s breaches relate to a Part 4 Notification Order, a 15-year requirement imposed after his original terror conviction in 2008. He must inform police about changes to phones, emails, vehicles, and financial accounts. But he went under the radar, sparking a police probe.
Commander Richard Smith, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, said:
“These conditions and orders are designed to help keep the public safe. We will do everything to monitor those subject to such measures. When they fail to comply, as Abdurahman did, we will act swiftly and put them before the courts.”
How Police Uncovered the Breaches
Back in February 2020, Abdurahman was sent back to prison for breaking other licence conditions. A search of his room uncovered undeclared devices and documents revealing unreported car use and hidden financial accounts. Charged with five counts of breaching notification rules, he admitted three charges and avoided two related to finances, which were dropped.
