Fire Breaks Out in London Block – Man Rescued from Smoke Chaos
A fire ripped through a fifth-floor hallway of an 11-storey apartment block in London, sparking panic among residents. Firefighters in breathing gear rushed to the scene and helped rescue a trapped man from a nearby flat.
The London Ambulance Service treated the man for smoke inhalation right there and then.
No Smoke Alarms Left Residents at Risk
Shockingly, the flat adjacent to the blaze had no working smoke alarms. Station Officer Adam Placey slammed the lack of safety measures.
“This incident is a timely reminder about the importance of having smoke alarms in your home,” said Placey. “It happened in the dead of night, and luckily residents smelled the smoke and dialled 999. Without alarms, you and your loved ones are at serious risk.”
“Homes need multiple smoke alarms – on every floor, in hallways, main rooms, plus a heat alarm in kitchens and bathrooms.”
Cluttered Communal Areas a Danger During Fires
Fire crews also warned against storing belongings in communal spaces. Items left in hallways and stairwells can block escapes and slow down firefighters’ work.
“Always keep corridors, stairs, and stairwells free of clutter to ensure everyone’s safety,” added Placey.
