Kent Police Ramp Up Patrols to Smash Illegal Gatherings
Kent Police are on high alert this weekend, stepping up patrols in public spaces and on beaches. Their mission? To remind folks about social distancing, crack down on illegal mass gatherings, and tackle any crime or disorder linked to these events.
Weekend Weather Won’t Stop Police Presence
Despite forecasts warning of wet weather across the county, officers will be out in force, making sure those who brave the elements behave responsibly. With Covid-19 still a serious threat, keeping safe distance is a must for anyone hitting Kent’s beaches and parks.
After Greatstone Chaos, Police Take No Chances
Kent Police are still investigating a nasty disturbance on Greatstone beach that happened on Sunday 9 August. Four officers suffered minor injuries during the chaos. A 29-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving and actual bodily harm. Detectives are also hunting down those who threw bottles at officers amid the fracas.
Snuff Out Plans for Mass Mayhem
- Kent Police caught wind of another seafront event rumoured to take place on 12 August.
- Officers tracked down organisers, even travelling to London to warn them off, citing health risks and legal consequences.
- Despite the warnings, the group moved on to Essex, where two men were arrested for conspiracy to commit a public nuisance.
Police Won’t Back Down on Illegal Gatherings
Assistant Chief Constable Nikki Faulconbridge said: “As we continue to investigate Greatstone, those planning mass gatherings should think again. These events cause real harm to communities and risk spreading Covid-19. We’ll work with councils and police forces to minimise impact. Any illegal gatherings will be dealt with robustly.”
“Most people follow Government advice, but we’ll engage with anyone who doesn’t, explain the rules, and urge compliance.”
Witnesses Urged to Help Police
