Off-Duty NYPD Cop Among Five Dead in Shocking Manhattan Office Massacre
Gunman Goes on Rampage in Midtown Tower
Five people are dead, including an off-duty NYPD officer, after a brutal shooting inside a Manhattan office building. The suspected gunman, 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura from Nevada, was found dead at the scene from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Mayor Eric Adams revealed Tamura had a valid firearm licence in Nevada and a history of mental health issues. Authorities say Tamura travelled cross-country from Las Vegas, stopping in multiple states before arriving in New York City. His motive remains a mystery.
Casual Rifle-Wielding Shooter Caught on Camera
Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed Tamura entered the lobby carrying a large rifle in one hand, as shown on CCTV footage. Without warning, he opened fire, killing off-duty NYPD officer Didarul Islam and wounding several others, including a female employee, a security guard, and a civilian.
Chaos erupted as terrified office workers barricaded themselves in rooms and hid under desks. The shooter then took an elevator to the 33rd floor, where Ruden Building Management is located, fatally shooting another victim before turning the gun on himself.
Weapons Stash Found in Double-Parked Car
Tamura’s vehicle was double-parked outside the building. Inside, police recovered a revolver and multiple magazines, adding to the deadly arsenal. The identities of three other victims have not yet been released. One person remains in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
City Mourns Fallen Hero, Calls for Unity
“This is a tragedy not just for the NYPD, but for the entire city,” said Mayor Adams. “We are mourning a hero whose life was taken senselessly.”
Law enforcement stressed there are no ongoing threats and confirmed the attack was not terror-related. Investigations continue into Tamura’s motive, but he is believed to have acted alone.
