Flying Squad Hunt ‘Red Bike’ Bank Robbery Suspect in East London
Detectives from the Met’s elite Flying Squad have released CCTV footage of a man linked to two daring attempted bank robberies in east London.
Two Threatening Hold-Ups in 48 Hours
The first attempt happened at 4pm on Thursday, 16 January, at a bank on Lea Bridge Road, E10. The suspect handed a threatening note to a teller demanding cash.
Just a day later, at around 4pm on Friday, 17 January, the same method was used at another bank on Amhurst Road, E8. Again, the man slipped a threatening note to staff, demanding money.
Quick-Thinking Staff Foil Robber
In both incidents, bank employees triggered alarms, forcing the suspect to flee empty-handed. Witnesses say he escaped on a distinctive red bicycle.
“It is important that we identify this man, so I would ask the public to take a good look at the image and get in touch with any information you have,”
said Detective Chief Inspector Ann-Marie Waller of the Flying Squad.
“This would have undoubtedly been a frightening experience for the staff concerned and I want to praise them for their quick thinking in a stressful situation. In both cases, bank staff followed their training and prevented this man making off with any cash.”
