Major Rescue Operation Ends in Lifesaving Airlift
An 81-year-old pensioner, Mr Salih, has been airlifted to St Mary’s Hospital after a dramatic overnight search near Shanklin. The Coastguard Search and Rescue team found him just after 6.40am on Monday.
Search Teams Work Through the Night
The rescue effort mobilised quickly after Mr Salih went missing on Sunday afternoon. Volunteers from WightSAR, Coastguard CRT teams, and police from Hampshire and the Isle of Wight joined forces with the Coastguard rescue helicopter, Rescue 175, to scour the area.
Pensioner Suffering Hypothermia Rescued and Treated
Mr Salih was discovered by a Ventnor Coastguard team member, suffering from hypothermia. He received first aid on site before being airlifted to Newport’s St Mary’s Hospital by Rescue 175.
