Detectives Urge Penge Locals to Speak Up After Dean Edwards Murder
It’s been a week since Dean Edwards was fatally shot in Penge, and detectives are urgently calling on anyone near Betts Park to come forward. If you heard or saw anything between late Saturday night and early Sunday morning, your help could be vital.
Deadly Shooting Near Betts Park
Dean was walking through Betts Park on Sunday, 12 July, shortly after midnight, heading home from a night out with friends. Just as he was about to leave the park near Croydon Road and Tremaine Road, he was shot in the back of the head.
Police and paramedics rushed to the scene after a call from London Ambulance Service at 2:20am, but Dean was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Race Against Time for Answers
Detective Chief Inspector Kate Kieran vowed to crack the case. “Dean was an innocent family man who was just cutting through the park on his way home,” she said. “We have no reason to believe he was involved in criminal activity. This violent attack makes no sense.”
Officers have knocked on doors, scoured CCTV, and now want locals who were in the area between 12:15am and 1am to come forward.
“Please speak to us if anything you heard that night made you uncomfortable or suspicious. Your information could be the missing piece we need,” said DCI Kieran. “We won’t stop until we get justice for Dean and answers for his grieving family.”
