Two Women Sought Over Dudley Distraction Thefts Targeting Elderly
West Midlands Police are hunting two women linked to recent distraction thefts in Dudley. The pair targeted elderly victims, making off with hefty amounts of cash and a stolen bank card.
Incident 1: Cash Snatched at Heron Foods
On 29 October 2024, just after 1:30pm, an 80-something woman was shopping at Heron Foods on Castle Street, Dudley, when the thieves struck. Using distraction tricks, they stole a significant sum of cash straight from her handbag.
Incident 2: Bank Card Stolen at Barclays
Just over a month later, on 3 December 2024 at around 2:40pm, a man in his 90s was targeted outside Barclays Bank on High Street, Dudley. The suspects used a similar ploy to swipe his bank card, which was then used to withdraw a large sum from an ATM later the same day.
The Modus Operandi
The suspects appear to work in tandem, distracting victims by engaging them in conversation or causing a scene — all to get close enough to steal valuables. Police say their exact techniques are still being investigated.
Police Investigation and Public Appeal
Despite CCTV checks and witness interviews, the suspects remain at large. West Midlands Police have now released images of two women they believe hold key information.
“It’s disheartening to see vulnerable members of our community targeted in this way. We urge anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward and assist our ongoing investigation.”
