Vandals Deface Leigh Cenotaph in Shocking Attack

Greater Manchester Police have launched a probe after Leigh’s Cenotaph on Church Street was daubed with graffiti. The vandalism happened around 4.20pm on Saturday, September 16, but police were only alerted on September 20.

Community Outraged, Police Appeal for Leads

Inspector Sam Davies of the Wigan Neighbourhood Team spoke out about the incident. “Understandably, this crime has sparked outrage in the local community,” he said. “We are now appealing for the public’s help to bring those responsible to justice.”

He added, “Residents have been fully cooperative as we work to find the culprits. This investigation is still at an early stage, and anyone with information is urged to come forward.”

No Tolerance for Mindless Vandalism

Inspector Davies stressed that such mindless damage won’t be tolerated. Police are determined to track down and prosecute those behind this disrespectful attack.
