Four Robberies Hit Bury Town Centre in Two Days

Bury’s town centre was rattled by four separate robbery attempts over two days, police revealed. The first three attacks happened the evening of Wednesday 9 March 2022, with the latest on Thursday afternoon.

Knife-Wielding Duo Strike Near Subway

At around 8.30pm on Moor Street by Subway, two men brandished a knife and demanded cash from a lone victim. The pair, described as skinny Asian males about 5ft 10ins tall in balaclavas and dark tracksuits, fled empty-handed when no money was given.

Baseball Bat Thugs Threaten Woman

Just 10 minutes later, near the junction of Brunswick Street and Moor Road, two masked teens wielding baseball bats stopped a female victim. They demanded to see inside her bag but fled after a brave passerby intervened and gave chase towards KFC. The attackers were described as Asian boys around 14 years old, dressed in all-black tracksuits with ski masks.

Tesco Footpath Incident and Tithebarn Phone Snatch

At 9pm, a woman was followed on the footpath between Tesco Woodfield’s and Moor Street. Two men demanded to check her bag. The first was a white male, 18, 5ft 8-10ins, with curly blonde/ginger hair and a gold baseball bat, wearing a grey hoodie. The second was an Asian male, 5ft 6ins, donning a black balaclava and dark clothes. They left empty-handed after finding no money.

The fourth incident hit the Tithebarn area at 3.30pm yesterday. Two Asian males, about 18 years old and 5ft 6ins tall in balaclavas and all-black gear, stole mobile phones from two victims.

Police Ramp Up Patrols—Public Urged to Help

Chief Inspector Matt Oxley of GMP’s Bury Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Thankfully no one was injured during these incidents. It is understandable these events will cause worry locally. We are doing all we can to catch those responsible and are following multiple lines of enquiry.”

“Expect a much increased police presence in Bury town centre this week. Anyone concerned is urged to speak with officers.”

“We especially want to speak to the member of public who stepped in to help one of the victims. If you have CCTV or dashcam footage, please get in touch.”
