Tragic Crash on A13 Leaves Three Dead in Wennington Marshes

Three people were killed in a horrific pile-up on the A13 in Wennington Marshes on Monday morning, July 15. Police were called just after 10am to reports of a collision involving a moving car smashing into a stationary vehicle.

Chain Reaction Collision

The stationary car had already been involved in a separate crash moments earlier. Emergency crews from the East of England Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade rushed to the scene.

Sadly, three of those involved were pronounced dead at the scene. Police have informed next of kin and are providing specialist support.

A fourth casualty was hospitalised with injuries that are not life-threatening and has since been discharged. No arrests have been made.

Police Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage

DI Julie Trodden, Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is an extremely tragic incident and my thoughts remain with the families of those who lost their loved ones. “We are keen to speak with anyone driving along this stretch of the A13 around 10am on July 15 who may have dashcam footage.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0208 597 4874 or message @MetCC quoting 8672/15JUL.

Investigation and Police Conduct Under IOPC Scrutiny

The fatal crash happened after police were called to the initial non-fatal collision but before officers arrived. The police response to that first incident is now under review by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

The crash took place within the Metropolitan Police area but near the Essex border. Initial emergency calls were handled by Essex Police’s control room. Both Met and Essex forces have made formal referrals to the IOPC for independent investigation.
