Fire at Hayes Sub-Station Not Suspicious, Say Police
No Criminal Link Found After Fire Probe
Police have ruled out foul play in the fire that tore through an electricity sub-station in Hayes last Thursday, 21 March. The Met’s Counter Terrorism Command launched a probe amid fears over a possible criminal act but after several days of investigation, they found no suspicious activity.
Multi-Agency Response Tackled Blaze
The fire sparked a major emergency response from the Metropolitan Police, London Fire Brigade, National Grid, and Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN). The blaze caused widespread power outages and disrupted local travel, leaving residents in the dark and facing delays.
Police Statement & Ongoing Vigilance
“Following enquiries to date, officers have found no evidence to suggest that the incident was suspicious in nature. As such, we are no longer treating this as a potentially criminal matter.
“We continue to support our partners at the National Grid, London Fire Brigade, and SSEN, with whom we remain in close contact.”
The Counter Terrorism Command’s involvement was precautionary, given the critical infrastructure affected. Police say any new information will be thoroughly investigated to keep the public safe.
Power Restored, Residents Relieved
