Hammer-Wielding Thugs Rob Convenience Store in Monkwearmouth
Just before midnight on Tuesday, chaos erupted at the Newcastle Road Convenience Store in Monkwearmouth. Two hammer-armed men barged in, threatening a female staff member while a third accomplice waited outside.
Robbery Turns Violent, Staff Left Shaken
The trio snatched cash and other goods before fleeing on foot into a nearby housing estate. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but the terrified female worker was taken to hospital as a precaution.
Police Hunt Masked Gang in High-Vis Jackets
Northumbria Police have launched an urgent probe. A spokesperson lashed out: “They showed total disregard for the welfare of staff and the local families who depend on the store during these tough times.”
The robbers all wore masks and gloves. One wore an orange high-vis jacket with dark trousers, while the other two were decked out in yellow high-vis jackets. After the raid, they reportedly fled left towards Crozier Street.
