False Hit-and-Run Rumours Rock Maidstone – Police Put Them to Bed
Social Media Frenzy Claims Two Dead in Maidstone Crash
A storm erupted online this weekend as social media users buzzed about a horrific hit-and-run in Maidstone Town. Rumours spread fast, with claims that two people had been struck and killed on Knightider Street on Saturday evening.
Driving instructor Nicole Stevens from Bill Plant Driving School was among those who sparked panic, stating there had been a fatal hit-and-run. Others jumped on board, including Sarah Terry and Catherine Casey, who added that two girls were involved and one had died.
Police Step In to Calm the Chaos
But the dramatic claims couldn’t be further from the truth. A spokesperson for Kent Police confirmed the facts: the crash happened at around 8.15pm on Lower Stone Street — not Knightider Street — involving a male pedestrian.
“He was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening. The driver stopped after the collision,” the spokesman said.
No Fatalities – Just a Scare
Police are urging the public to resist spreading false information. This incident was serious but did not involve any deaths or critical injuries, putting an end to the viral misinformation frenzy gripping Maidstone online.
