Paint-Throwing Protestors Arrested at London Marathon
Chaos on Tower Bridge as Protestors Storm Marathon Route
Two protestors were swiftly arrested after they jumped barriers and threw paint on the famous Tower Bridge during the London Marathon this morning (April 27). The incident happened at around 10:38am, right as elite male runners were racing through one of the UK’s most iconic marathon spots.
Quick-Thinking Staff Stop Disruption
Event staff on the bridge acted fast to remove the protestors from the path, preventing any disruption to the race. Thanks to their quick response, the men’s elite race continued without delay. The Metropolitan Police arrested the pair on suspicion of causing a public nuisance. Both remain in custody.
Chalk-Based Paint Causes No Harm
The red paint thrown was chalk-based and is not expected to pose a hazard to runners crossing Tower Bridge later today. A Met Police spokesperson confirmed:
“At around 10:38hrs, two protesters from Youth Demand jumped over barriers at Tower Bridge and threw red paint onto the road. A member of London Marathon event staff intervened to remove the protesters from the path of the men’s elite race which was able to pass unobstructed moments later. He was quickly supported by police officers who arrested the protesters on suspicion of causing a public nuisance. They remain in custody. The paint appears to be chalk-based and is not expected to present a hazard to runners yet to pass this point.”
Marathon Goes On as Thousands Attend
The London Marathon continues today with tens of thousands of runners and spectators taking part in one of the UK’s biggest annual sporting events. Organisers have confirmed the race remains on schedule despite the protest stunt.
