18 Years On, Police Renew Hunt for Martin Conlon’s Killer
The Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Major Investigation Team has launched a fresh appeal for information on the cold-blooded murder of Martin Conlon. It is the 18th anniversary of the tragic killing, and authorities are urging the public to come forward with any leads.
£20,000 Reward Offered for Martin Conlon’s Killer
The independent charity Crimestoppers has backed the appeal, offering a £20,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
Martin Conlon, 35, was gunned down in South Armagh’s Keady area on November 7, 2005. He was found unconscious with gunshot wounds to the head on Farnaloy Road shortly after 6.30pm and later died in hospital.
Gruesome Details Emerge
Detective Chief Inspector Anthony Kelly revealed two masked men forced Martin into his own silver Volkswagen Passat in the Greenpark Crest area off Monaghan Road, Armagh. The killers drove the vehicle to Farnaloy Road where they shot him and abandoned the car.
“His murder was calculated, ruthless and cold-blooded,” said DCI Kelly. “It happened in early evening when children and members of the public were about. We urge anyone with information to consider the pain suffered by Martin’s family.”
Justice Still Elusive After Nearly Two Decades
Sadly, Martin’s parents have passed away without seeing justice served. DCI Kelly spoke of the enduring sorrow of the family left behind.
He acknowledged that people might be hesitant to speak out but reassured the public that Crimestoppers guarantees 100% anonymity. They don’t trace calls or IP addresses, and callers can remain completely anonymous.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or visit crimestoppers-uk.org. Remember to ask for a reward code when submitting tips to qualify for the £20,000 reward.
