New Isle of Wight Police Chief Brings Decades of Experience
Supt Pegler has been shaking up UK policing since 1995, when he started with the City of London Police. After moving to Hampshire Constabulary, he climbed the ranks fast. Now, he’s the new top cop on the Isle of Wight, ready to bring serious expertise and energy to the island’s streets.
From Armed Policing to District Commander
Supt Pegler’s CV boasts senior roles like Head of Armed Policing, Head of Custody, and most recently Head of Response and Patrol. He’s also served as District Commander across Fareham, Gosport, and Portsmouth — so he knows the job and the job’s dangers.
New Chief vows Tough Action on Crime
“I feel very privileged to lead the police service on the Isle of Wight, which is such a unique community and a fantastic place to live and work,” said Supt Pegler.
“My focus? Ensuring officers deliver the best support for victims and witnesses while cracking down hard on crime.”
He added: “Crimes often come from a tiny minority who ruin life for many others. I’m determined to find these people and stop them through proactive investigations, prosecutions, and diversion programmes, especially targeting younger offenders.”
Priority Targets: Domestic Abuse and Class A Drugs
Supt Pegler made no secret of the police’s main targets.
“Preventing and tackling domestic abuse is a top priority, alongside disrupting the supply of Class A drugs on the Island,” he stressed.
He praised the current team’s efforts under predecessor Supt Sarah Jackson, recognising the successful arrests and intelligence work on the drugs front.
“I thank Supt Jackson for her hard work and am thrilled to follow her lead.”
He finished on a hopeful note: “Policing works best when the community and partners unite. I look forward to working with everyone—volunteers, partners, and the public—to keep the Isle of Wight safe.”
