Gas Blast Near Bury School Leaves Woman Seriously Injured
A suspected gas explosion rocked a terraced property near St Luke’s Primary School in Bury, leaving a 70-year-old woman seriously hurt and sparking chaos across the local area.
Emergency Services Rush to Scene
Firefighters, paramedics, and police swarmed Nelson Street in Fishpool after reports of an explosion just yards from the primary school. Witnesses watched in horror as flames engulfed the building while pupils and staff were swiftly evacuated for their safety.
The injured woman was rushed to hospital, as police set up a 200-metre cordon around the damaged property and neighbouring homes. Officials shut Devon Street, Gigg Lane, and Nelson Street to keep locals away from danger.
Local Officials Praise Rapid Response
Councillor Tamoor Tariq said emergency crews worked quickly to control the blaze and protect residents. “St Luke’s Primary School acted decisively to get the children to safety,” he added.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson urged people to steer clear of the cordoned-off area, while the Fire and Rescue Service continued tackling the flames and investigating the incident.
