Bogus ‘Damp Checkers’ Burgle Pensioner’s Home in Gravesend

Residents in Gravesend are urged to stay alert after a brazen burglary involving fake surveyors posing as damp inspectors.

Tricksters Target Elderly Man

On September 27, 2020, at 11:30am, Kent Police were called to Milton Road following reports of suspicious activity. Two men knocked on the door of an 80-year-old man claiming they were checking for damp damage after a neighbour’s complaint.

While one man distracted the pensioner with chat, the other slyly searched the house, later making off with cash and a credit card.

Descriptions of Suspects

  • Both white and large build.
  • One around 6ft tall, short hair, wearing a dark jacket.
  • Other about 5ft 7ins, dark boiler suit and beanie hat.
