Inside the Met: BBC Cameras Capture Gritty London Policing
In 2021, as the world shook off the worst of the Covid crisis, dozens of Met officers and staff let BBC crews film their every move. The hit documentary series The Met pulled back the curtain on the daily battles of London’s finest, from chasing crooks to protecting victims.
NEW SEASON DROPS 24 OCTOBER
The latest run, launching Tuesday 24 October, dives deeper than ever. It reveals the jaw-dropping challenges officers face in some of London’s most complex and unique crime scenes.
BBC began filming at the Met’s toughest time in recent memory. But the show airs now amid sweeping reforms under Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley. In July 2023, the “New Met for 1” plan was unveiled, promising big changes over two years.
The Real Faces of Reform
This series shines a spotlight on the dedication and emotional grit of Met officers and staff. It’s their often unseen bravery that’s helping rebuild public trust and shaping the future of London’s police force.
Assistant Commissioner Louisa Rolfe said: “This is the Met opening its doors to independent crews so the public can see the 24/7 policing across London. The BBC had full editorial control and showed us as we truly are. Transparency is key to earning Londoners’ trust in our community crime-fighting approach, which is the foundation of our policing.
“I’d like to thank the officers who took part – it took real courage and leadership to let cameras in. I’m proud the public will see this honest, human side of policing one of the world’s biggest, most complex cities.”
Exclusive Access to Real-Life Crime Scenes
This is BBC Studios’ fourth time embedded with the Met, filming from March to December 2021. Hundreds of officers agreed individually to appear, giving filmmakers unprecedented access.
Cameras captured everything—from emergency 999 calls to intense investigations. Viewers will see arrests, surveillance on violent offenders, and officers protecting vulnerable victims.
The opening episode follows detectives tackling a brutal teen murder in south London, hunting a network of human traffickers exploiting victims for sex work, and answering emergency calls in Brixton.
Don’t miss the gripping new season of The Met, airing from 24 October on BBC. Get ready to see London’s police like never before.
