Wedding Bash at Southall Venue Sparks Huge Police Crackdown
Met Police swooped on the Tudor Rose in Southall just after 6.30pm on Tuesday, 13 October, after reports of a packed wedding bash breaching COVID rules.
Overcrowded Venue Flouts Coronavirus Rules
Officers found the venue rammed with guests celebrating a wedding, far exceeding the legal limit of 15 people. There was no sign of social distancing or any effort to prevent virus spread.
Weddings are allowed under current Government rules, but strict guest limits and COVID-secure measures must be followed.
Owner Faces Huge £10,000 Fine
Police quickly dispersed the crowd to bring numbers in line with the law. Senior officers then moved to report the venue owner for a possible £10,000 fixed penalty notice.
Chief Superintendent Peter Gardner slammed the blatant breach. “This was a dangerous and foolish breach of regulations designed to keep people safe from a deadly virus. There can be no excuse for this flagrant and arrogant violation of the law.”
“There was clearly no attempt by the venue owner to enforce the rules or protect patrons. We have reported them for a £10,000 fine.”
“With cases rising across London, the Met will step up action against individuals and businesses flouting restrictions and putting others at risk.”
