Drug Dealer Dumps Drugs in Thames During Chase
Police caught a suspected dealer red-handed in New Cross on Wednesday afternoon. Around 1pm on 4 November, VCTF officers spotted a drug deal going down along Foreshore, SE8. The suspect bolted as soon as he saw the cops.
Dealer Tosses Drugs Into River Thames
During the chase, the dealer hurled a white plastic bag into the Thames before he was caught. The bag floated on the surface, prompting officers to call in the Met Police’s Marine Policing Unit (MPU).
The MPU quickly recovered the bag, which is believed to contain around 14 wraps of heroin and cocaine. The haul is now being tested.
£800 Cash Seized as Man Held in Custody
The suspect was also found with £800 in cash and has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply. He is currently in custody.
“This incident shows how tackling violent crime in London truly is a Met-wide effort,” said Inspector James Hendrick of the VCTF.
“Without the support of the MPU, we may not have been able to safely recover the suspected drugs. We know that drug dealing is closely linked to violence and it is our priority to continue to tackle this serious crime and keep communities safe.”
