Protesters Smash Through Gate in Early Morning Rampage
Police were scrambled at 7:50am on Wednesday after a white van, packed with protesters, rammed the gate at business premises on Meridian Way. The van forced its way inside, wreaking havoc on police vehicles, private cars, and surrounding property.
Chaos Unfolds as Smoke Canisters Thrown
The protest turned chaotic as coloured smoke canisters were hurled from the van. Two protesters staged a rooftop protest atop the van until officers arrested them for public order offences and criminal damage. A third suspect was nabbed nearby.
Three Arrested and Held in Custody
- 22-year-old from Wembley
- 27-year-old from Manchester
- 60-year-old from Shropshire
All three remain in custody as police launch a full investigation. Detectives are urgently appealing for witnesses or dashcam footage from motorists around Meridian Way at 7:45am to help piece together the incident.
Road Closures and Business Disruption
The early morning chaos caused road closures and disrupted local businesses. Police have stepped up patrols and pledged a “proactive policing plan” to prevent further trouble.
Detective Chief Inspector Chris Gamble said: “No-one was injured, but this was reckless behaviour. We back peaceful protests but will swiftly act against anyone committing crime or causing damage.”
“If you saw what happened or captured the white van’s approach on dashcam, please come forward.”
