Pregnant Woman and Baby Killed in Horror Crash with Unmarked Police Car in Eltham
Two Met Police Officers Under Investigation
Two Metropolitan Police officers are facing a criminal probe over suspected driving offences after a fatal collision in south-east London claimed the lives of a pregnant woman and her unborn child.
The tragedy unfolded on 17 October on Kidbrooke Park Road, Eltham, when an unmarked police vehicle smashed into the 38-year-old woman’s car. She was full-term pregnant at the time.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, but the woman was pronounced dead on impact. Medics performed an emergency C-section in a desperate bid to save the baby, but sadly the infant later died in hospital.
IOPC Launches Serious Inquiry
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) confirmed that both officers involved are under criminal investigation for potential driving offences.
“We are investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic collision, including the actions and conduct of the officers involved. Our thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of those who have died,” said an IOPC spokesperson.
The watchdog stressed that being under investigation does not mean charges will definitely follow as the inquiry continues.
Community Cries Out for Answers
The heartbreaking crash has rocked the local community, who demand transparency about what really happened and the role of the unmarked police car involved.
“It’s devastating to lose lives like this. There needs to be accountability and answers for this family,” said one Eltham resident.
Met Police Offer Condolences, Call for Witnesses
The Metropolitan Police expressed deep sympathy for the family. A spokesperson said:
“This is a devastating incident, and our thoughts are with the family during this incredibly difficult time. We are fully cooperating with the IOPC investigation.”
Both the IOPC and Met Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. If you have information or dashcam footage from the area at the time, please contact the IOPC or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Questions Raised Over Police Driving Protocols
