Nottingham Police Crack Down on Mansfield Road Crime

Nottingham’s north and south police teams joined forces for a major operation targeting Mansfield Road over two days this week. The move comes after community leaders, local businesses, and residents raised alarms about crime spiralling out of control.

Heavy Patrols and Sweeps Hit Troubled Areas

Uniformed and plainclothes officers ramped up patrols, conducted knife and drug sweeps in two local parks, and carried out other tough measures. The aim? To tackle a spike in begging, drug dealing, shoplifting, and antisocial behaviour plaguing the stretch.

“We decided to sweep the area on two days this week, and it was a huge success,” said Sgt Jordan Hinds. “Alongside multiple arrests, we gathered vital intelligence and reassured residents and workers that we’re taking action on issues that matter.”

Coordinated Effort Across City Boundaries

Since Mansfield Road straddles Nottingham city’s north and south districts, this was the perfect chance for police teams to pool resources. Nine officers and six PCSOs took part each day, patrolling in marked and unmarked cars.

The operation combined high-visibility policing with covert detective work targeting known offenders.

Serious Problems with Begging and Shoplifting

“Some may dismiss begging, antisocial behaviour, and shoplifting as minor, but they hurt the whole community,” Sgt Hinds warned.

  • Repeated thefts hit shopkeepers’ pockets hard.
  • Businesses forced into costly security upgrades.
  • Crime and public disorder scare off shoppers and visitors.

“We want Mansfield Road to be a safe, thriving place for residents and businesses. Our officers work daily to make sure it stays that way.”
