Two Women Arrested Over Terror Probe After Public Appeal

Police have arrested two women linked to a suspected terrorism investigation following a public appeal from the Counter Terrorism Command.

Last Friday, 27 October, officers released images of three women they wanted to question about suspected terror offences at a protest earlier this month. The appeal received widespread media coverage.

Women Turn Themselves In After Seeing Photos

On Monday, 30 October, two women aged 29 and 44 came forward at a south London police station after recognising themselves in the images. Both were arrested on suspicion of inviting support for a proscribed organisation, breaching section 12(1)(a) of the Terrorism Act 2000.

They remain in custody at a west London police station under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act.

Police Still Hunting Third Woman and Pro-Hamas Protester

Officers continue their search for a third woman spotted at a pro-Palestine protest in Whitehall on 14 October. She was seen wearing light brown trousers, a red long-sleeved top with a blue denim jacket tied around her waist (later worn), a light blue medical mask, a dark headscarf or bandana, and carrying a dark red shoulder bag. She is described as dark-skinned and was easily spotted by her paraglider-printed top.

Separately, police want to identify a man seen waving a placard declaring “I fully support Hamas” at a Bond Street protest on 21 October. Described as light-skinned with short hair, he wore a blue jacket, a light striped scarf, and light trousers or jeans.

Counter Terror Chief Pleads for Public Help

Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, said: “My officers are working night and day with our colleagues across the country to investigate suspected terrorism offences committed in the real world and online.”

“I am grateful to the public who have reported information to us and I urge anyone who has information about the man and woman we are still seeking to please let us know. If the people in the pictures recognise themselves, I urge them to come forward so we can speak with them.”

Anyone with information on these individuals is urged to report in confidence at gov.uk/ACT or call 0800 789 321.
