Fire crews in Birmingham were called to an unusual rescue after a toddler became trapped in a plughole at hospital.
West Midlands Fire Service confirmed they were called to Birmingham Children’s Hospital when a one-year-old got three fingers stuck in a metal plug fitting.
Specialist firefighters from the Technical Rescue Unit attended the hospital’s surgery department, where they carefully cut away the plughole to release the child.
A spokesperson for the service said the rescue was a “tricky job” but praised the delicate work of crews.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), West Midlands Fire Service’s Technical Rescue team said:
“Tricky job at Birmingham Children’s Hospital in surgery having to cut off a plughole from three fingers of a one-year-old. All went well and a full recovery will be made.”
The child is expected to make a full recovery following the incident.
