Man dies after car leaves the carriageway on A3 at Wisley

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man died when the white Audi he was driving left the road and collided with a barrier on the A3 southbound near Wisley services. We were called at around 8.50pm this evening (1 May) to the collision on the Ripley bypass stretch of the A3 southbound, around 500 metres south of Wisley services. Officers from Surrey Police, assisted by two off duty paramedics, attempted to resuscitate the driver, a man in his 30’s from Hampshire, however the man sadly passed away at the scene. His next of kin have been informed. There were no other vehicles involved in the incident. The A3 was closed in both directions to allow the police, assisted by Surrey Fire and Rescue and South East Coast Ambulance, to carry out their work, and for the air ambulance to land. The northbound carriageway has reopened, but the southbound carriageway is likely to remain closed overnight while collision investigators carry out their work and the barrier is repaired. A diversion is in place through Ockham Park, through Ripley on the B2215, then rejoining the A3 at Burnt Common. Officers are appealing for anyone who saw the collision; saw the manner of driving of the white Audi; or may have dashcam footage of the white Audi in the minutes before the collision (between 8.30pm and 8.50pm); to come forward. It is believed that the Audi joined the A3 from the anticlockwise M25 at Junction 10. Anyone with information is asked to call Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference: PR/P18099931.
