Passengers aboard a Delta Air Lines flight were forced to evacuate at Orlando International Airport after flames were seen shooting from one of the aircraft’s engines during startup on Monday morning.
Flight DL1213, which was preparing for departure, experienced a dramatic engine malfunction when flames erupted from its No. 2 engine shortly after pushback. Emergency slides were deployed, and all passengers were safely evacuated from the aircraft. No injuries have been reported.
A spokesperson for Delta Air Lines confirmed the incident, stating:
“Out of an abundance of caution, the flight crew of Delta flight 1213 initiated an evacuation after observing flames from the aircraft’s engine during startup. All customers and crew were safely evacuated, and we thank them for their cooperation.”
The aircraft has since been taken out of service and is undergoing a full inspection by maintenance crews. Fire and rescue units at Orlando International Airport also attended the scene to ensure the area was safe and to assess the situation.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been notified and is expected to conduct an investigation into the cause of the engine issue.
Affected passengers were rebooked on alternative flights, and airport operations have returned to normal.
Delta Air Lines apologized for the disruption and praised the crew for their quick response, ensuring the safety of all onboard.
