Roads Policing officer mowed down on A3

A roads polcing officer based at Havant is continuing to make a recovery after he was mowed down whilst dealing with a two vehicle collision on the A3 near Petersfield on Sunday. The Officer was called to deal with a two vehicle collision on the northbound section of the A3. Whilst the officer from the Hampshire Constablary roads policing unit was dealing with the incident he was struck by red Kia Picanto. The road was closed for over seven hours whilst collision investigation officer carried out a full investigation. The 44 year old experienced police officer was treated by a critical care doctor and than rushed to hospital with a serious leg injury as a result of being mowed down Officers are understood to have asked to driver of the Kia to give the first account of the collision under caution. Drivers who witnessed the collision said the officer was in the carriageway when he was struck. Those involved in the original incident escaped with minor injuries. A Hampshire Constablary spokeswoman said: ‘Offiers were called at just after 9.14am on Sunday 3 March to a report of a two vehicle road traffic collision on the A3 near Petersfield. Two vehicles a silver BMW and a silver Vauxhall had been involved in a rear end collision. A further incident involving red Kia Picanto was involved in collision with a 44-year-old man who is a serving police officer. The road was closed until around 4pm while investigations took place.
