Passenger Dies Onboard Flight Forced to Land in Cornwall
Drama unfolded mid-air on Sunday night when a passenger fell seriously ill three hours into a Jet2 flight. An emergency alert was issued as the situation escalated.
Woman Collapses, CPR Administered
The ill traveller, believed to be a woman, became gravely unwell and lost consciousness as the pilot made an urgent landing at Cornwall Airport Newquay. Crew and emergency services quickly sprang into action, administering CPR onboard.
A Jet2 spokesperson confirmed the flight was diverted “due to a customer requiring medical attention.” Tragically, the woman was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. “Our thoughts are with the customer’s family at this difficult time,” the spokesperson added.
Passengers Shocked as Plane Refuels, Then Continues Journey
Passengers described a deeply emotional scene onboard as paramedics used a scoop stretcher to remove the woman. Witnesses say fellow travellers were “visibly upset and emotional.”
After police and ambulance teams met the flight for medical support, the plane briefly refuelled before resuming the journey, finally landing in Manchester around 10pm.
Investigations Underway
Details remain scarce as authorities probe the incident. The South West Ambulance Service and Devon and Cornwall Police have been approached for comment, but no further information has been released.
