Met to Crack Down on Covid Rule-Breakers in London
With Covid-19 cases soaring in London, the Metropolitan Police are zeroing in on rule-breakers. Officers will now act faster, hitting offenders with fines for deliberate breaches.
Swift Action Against Reckless Gatherings
This weekend, cops will be on high alert for illegal house parties, unlicensed music events, and risky meetups. The Met vows to clamp down hard on anyone putting lives in danger.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Issues Stark Warning
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist said:
“Londoners and our NHS have faced one of the toughest challenges in living memory. Most have shown incredible resilience and followed the rules. But as we head into another critical phase, the city has not beaten the virus yet—risks remain high.
“Staying home saves lives by stopping the virus spreading. Yet a reckless few ignore this and hold parties and large gatherings. With the NHS under huge pressure, these actions are shameful. When people blatantly endanger others, we will enforce the law without hesitation.”
Recent Fines Show Police Mean Business
- Last week, police slammed a Brent bar still open and serving customers with a fixed penalty.
- In Brent, 14 people caught at an illegal car meet also faced fines.
- On Monday, cops shut down a Southall shisha bar in an industrial unit where 29 people were crammed inside.
One guest tried to flee, but officers caught them. The event risked spreading Covid and posed serious safety hazards due to poor shisha pipe management.
The property owner faces a potential fine. Police remain vigilant, patrolling hotspots to stop further breaches.
