Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment soldiers gear up in Cyprus for King Charles III’s Coronation! The troops are set to leave their overseas post and take centre stage in London for the grand royal event.
Final Parade in Cyprus Before Royal Duty
Before jetting off, soldiers stationed at British Forces Cyprus – a key Strategic Command base – performed a final inspection parade in Cyprus. They’ve been training alongside British and Commonwealth forces in the UK, preparing to represent the Sovereign Base Areas at the Coronation of HM King Charles III.
Strategic Base with a Global Reach
The Sovereign Base Areas in Cyprus are part of the UK’s worldwide defence network, helping support the security of Britain, its allies, and partner nations. Managed by Strategic Command, these bases are vital for maintaining global reach.
Commander Praises Importance of Coronation
“The Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III is an especially momentous event for the UK Overseas Territory on Cyprus and all those who serve or support our 1 here,” said Air Vice Marshal Peter Squires, Commander British Forces Cyprus and Administrator of the Sovereign Base Areas.
“Having held our own Proclamation Ceremony last September and with the Administrator appointed by the Sovereign, our close ties to the Monarchy run deep. We’ve proudly hosted many Royal visits, including Princess Royal’s opening of Queen Berengaria School this January.”
“We’re honoured that British Forces Cyprus have been chosen to take part in the Coronation. Our personnel and their families will join the UK, Commonwealth, and the world in this historic celebration.”
