TfL Shake-Up: Big Bus Changes Hit London from April 6
London’s bus network is getting a major facelift as Transport for London (TfL) rolls out changes starting the first weekend of April. The moves are designed to streamline services, cut costs, and back the Mayor’s Transport Strategy – all to make your daily commute smoother.
What’s Changing? Key Route Tweaks Revealed
TfL’s 9,300-strong bus fleet covers 675 routes across the capital, and from Saturday, April 6, some will see notable tweaks:
- Route 273: Rerouted both ways via Winn Road and Exford Road to Burnt Ash Hill. Jevington Way and Senlac Road stops are dropped due to ongoing parked car chaos blocking buses.
- Route S3: Minor timetable changes across all days to better match passenger demand.
Commuters should check TfL’s journey planner for the latest timetables before travelling.
Long-Term Road Closures and Diversions Fuel Further Disruption
Big closures and diversions will also rattle routes throughout London, including:
- Kingston’s Cromwell Road bus station: Shut until Summer 2024.
- Envoy Avenue (Hatton Cross): Westbound closed until end of May for roadworks.
- Ship Hill: Closed between Maesmaur Road & Borough Road for water main repairs.
- Route 464: Running only between New Addington and Biggin Hill until at least April 29.
- Route 394: Diverted via Homerton Hospital due to Wimbourne Street closure until Summer 2024.
- Beech Street (Barbican): Westbound closed until November because of building works.
- Many other routes including 57, 65, 71, 81, 85, 90, 110, 111, and numerous night buses face various disruptions.
What This Means for Londoners
TfL stresses these changes will boost efficiency and reliability, helping Londoners keep moving in a greener, more dependable way. But with so many routes affected, plan ahead and expect delays in spots.
Keep an eye on official TfL updates and journey planners to stay one step ahead of the chaos.
