Darent Valley Hospital Cracks Down on Flu and RSV with New Safety Rules
Darent Valley Hospital (DVH) has slammed the brakes on rising cases of Influenza and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) by reintroducing tough infection prevention measures from today.
New Rules to Stop Virus Spread
- Mandatory Masks: All visitors must wear hospital-issued surgical masks in wards and departments—unless medically exempt. Patients are also urged to mask up whenever possible.
- Don’t Visit If Unwell: Visitors feeling sick should stay away. Anyone with recent diarrhoea or vomiting must wait 72 hours after symptoms end before coming to the hospital.
- Hand Hygiene is Key: Visitors must use alcohol hand rub before and after visits. Plus, washing hands with soap and water after the toilet is strongly recommended.
Hospital Pleads for Cooperation
“We greatly appreciate everyone’s cooperation as we work to protect our community during this challenging time. Your understanding and support are crucial as we take these steps to safeguard patients, staff, and visitors,” said a DVH spokesperson.
Public Urged to Follow Guidance
The hospital stresses sticking to the new rules is vital to curb the spread of flu and RSV, especially to protect vulnerable patients. Anyone feeling ill is urged to stay home.
