Dartford Crossing set for a week of late-night closures – plan your journey now!

Motorists beware! The well-used Dartford Crossing will shut repeatedly overnight this week for crucial maintenance and grillage repairs. From Monday, October 7, through to Monday, October 15, both the anticlockwise and northbound tunnels on the A282 will be closed during the night hours, causing potential delays.

Essential Overnight Closures and Diversions

National Highways will put diversions in place via surrounding roads to ease traffic during the shutdowns. The Dartford Crossing is a key route connecting Dartford in Kent with Thurrock, Essex, over the Thames. These works are vital to keep this busy artery safe and running smoothly.

Key Closure Dates and Times

  • Oct 7-8: Anticlockwise A282 junction 1A entry slip and West Tunnel shut 10pm-5:30am.
  • Oct 8-9: Northbound West Tunnel closed; same anticlockwise closures as above, 10pm-5:30am.
  • Oct 9-11: Repeated anticlockwise shutdowns of junction 1A slip and West Tunnel, 10pm-5:30am each night.
  • Oct 11-12: Anticlockwise closures move to 11pm-6am.
  • Oct 13-14: Southbound lane and slip road closures for waterproofing 9:30pm-7:30am; Northbound West Tunnel shut 10pm-5am.
  • Oct 14-15: Northbound East Tunnel closed 10pm-5am.

What Drivers Must Do

  • Expect diversions via local authority and National Highways routes.
  • Check National Highways’ website, travel apps, or Twitter feed for updates.
  • Allow extra journey time or consider alternate routes to avoid delays.

Closure times may shift if the weather turns nasty. Keep an eye out and stay ahead of the disruption. The Dartford Crossing remains a vital transport link, so these tough but necessary works will keep it in tip-top shape for years to come.
