Huge missing person hunt launched for Gaynor Lord, 55, a mum-of-three who vanished under mysterious circumstances after leaving her Norwich city centre job early last Friday. The search has escalated into a major police operation, involving divers, drones, and the coastguard.
The Vanishing Act
Gaynor, a retail assistant at Bullard Gin in Jarrold Department Store, disappeared after clocking out at 2:45 pm – well ahead of her usual 4 pm finish. She never followed her usual walk home and vanished without a trace.
Personal Items Spark Alarm
Officials found Gaynor’s coat dumped in the River Wensum near Wensum Park, about a mile from her workplace. More belongings were recovered nearby, including clothes, her phone, glasses, and two rings. The area has been shut off since Saturday while officers scour the scene.
Police Probe Intensifies
Norwich Superintendent Wes Hornigold said: “No signs suggest harm yet, but with her clothes found by the water, it’s possible she entered the river.” Cops are combing CCTV and haven’t ruled out any leads. Crucially, there’s no current suspicion of foul play.
Divers and Drones Join the Search
Specialist dive teams, backed by fire crews and coastguards, are scanning the River Wensum with sonar gear. Drones and foot patrols comb the surroundings for further clues. The hunt is relentless as authorities race against time.
Family and Community Reeling
Gaynor’s sudden disappearance has devastated her family and local community. Her husband, a financial advisor, is staying silent for now. Supt Hornigold added the family is receiving specialist support amid the distressing ordeal.
Search and Public Appeal Goes On
The ongoing search moves forward with urgency. Police urge the public: if you have any information or sightings, report immediately to Norwich Constabulary, quoting the case reference. Every lead counts in bringing Gaynor home.
