The fire broke out on the evening of April 14 when an air fryer caught fire on a hob that had been accidentally left on. Jamie and Cristal, along with their five kids aged between four months and 14 years, were asleep upstairs when the smoke alarms blared. They raced to call emergency services.

By the time firefighters arrived, the flames were already put out, but thick smoke filled the house. Using high-powered fans, crews cleared the smoke and secured the family’s safety.

She also warned homeowners to be careful with cooking devices, especially at night or when leaving the house. “Keep cooking areas free from flammable materials and always switch appliances off,” she added.
