Tragic Hillwalking Trip Ends in Heartbreak for Cheshire Family
Tom Parry, 49, and his son Richie, 12, were found dead after going missing during a hike in Scotland’s Glencoe. The father and son from Cheshire had set off on Tuesday but never returned home as planned the next day. Their bodies were discovered on Stob Coire Nan Lochan on Wednesday evening.
Family Pays Emotional Tribute
Tom’s wife, Gemma, described him as a “caring and loving father” and “devoted husband.” She remembered Richie as an “energetic, loving boy” who loved quizzes, maths, and sports. The Parry family expressed heartfelt thanks to the Scottish and Cheshire police, mountain rescue teams, and the community for their support during this tragic time.
Rescue Teams and Community Rally
Inspector Katy Duncan extended condolences to the Parry family and praised all involved in the search efforts. Glencoe Mountain Rescue and other emergency crews coordinated the operation. Despite being experienced hillwalkers, Tom and Richie’s loss has shocked friends, colleagues, and the wider community.
Remembering Tom and Richie
Childhood friend Bart Seaton-Said recalled Tom’s “heroic and sensitive nature” and treasured shared memories. Former colleague Nigel Howle praised Tom as “kind and knowledgeable” in market research. The community is left reeling from this devastating loss, a stark reminder of the dangers of outdoor adventures.
The family mourns deeply but draws strength from the outpouring of support worldwide. A full inquiry is underway, with a report submitted to the Procurator Fiscal as investigations continue.
