Blaze hits Westminster restaurant and flats – Ten fire engines rush to scene
Ten fire engines and 72 firefighters swarmed to a fierce fire at a restaurant on Horseferry Road, Westminster, last night. The ground floor eatery suffered heavy damage in the blaze.
Flats above smoke and flames
The fire didn’t stop there. Half of a flat on the first floor and part of another on the second floor were also damaged. Thankfully, the restaurant was closed when the fire broke out, and no injuries were reported.
Road closures and hours of battling flames
Horseferry Road was shut between Marsham Street and Medway Street as fire crews battled the blaze. The Brigade received the alarm at 11.33pm, and the fire was under control by 3.15am.
Massive response from London’s fire stations
Firefighters from Lambeth, Soho, Chelsea, Dowgate, Euston, and nearby stations joined the fight. Early investigations suggest the blaze started due to a refrigerator fault.
