Gas Blast Rips Through Putney Flat
Chaos erupted in Putney after a gas explosion tore through a flat on Toland Square. Two fire engines and around 10 firefighters rushed to the scene following reports of the blast.
Flat Damaged, Two Women Escape
The explosion wrecked most of the three-room flat on the ground floor of a three-storey block. Two women managed to flee before fire crews arrived.
London Ambulance Service treated both on-site, with one woman taken to hospital for further care.
Neighbours Evacuated as Precaution
Safety was tight as residents from nearby homes were evacuated. Firefighters from Wandsworth and Richmond stations tackled the blaze, wrapping up the operation by 3.15pm after being called at 2.11pm.
The cause? Believed to be a faulty gas supply triggering the blast.
