Blaze Rips Through Bungalow Roof Near Winchester
Four fire crews raced to a severe roof fire at a bungalow in Durley this lunchtime. The blaze erupted just before 1pm on Thursday on Durley Brook Road, leaving the property badly damaged.
Firefighters Battle Flames for Over an Hour
Crews from Bishops Waltham, Hightown, Eastleigh, and St Mary’s joined forces to tackle the fire. It took them an hour and a half to bring the flames under control. Firefighters deployed four breathing apparatus sets, one main jet, two hose reel jets, and an additional jet to douse the inferno.
Faulty Electrics Suspected as Cause
The bungalow’s owner, who was working outside at the time, spotted heavy smoke pouring from the roof. He believes faulty electrics in the roof space sparked the fire.
Investigation Underway as Owner Faces Damage Costs
Fire investigators are now probing the exact cause of the blaze. Meanwhile, the homeowner is left counting the cost after the smoke and fire seriously damaged the property.
